Mauer arrives at Twins camp upbeat

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Joe Mauer admits that he’s gained a little extra notoriety this offseason after winning the 2009 American League MVP Award. At least that’s been the case when he’s traveled outside of Minnesota this winter, since the Twins’ catcher has long attracted plenty of attention in his home state.
So when Mauer arrived at the Minor League workout facility at the Lee County Sports Complex sporting a new beard a couple days ago, he was pleasantly surprised to hear one of the fans say something unexpected to him.
“Hey, Nick Blackburn!”
