POOR JOE MAUER…..With the fact that Joe Mauer has not signed an extended contract as yet, there’s no question that the most oft asked question, asked not only to Joe Mauer but to almost everyone, is “what’s the status of Joe’s contract?” I chatted with Twins Media Director, Mike Herman today and I asked him how he is handling the Mauer story, especially during spring training. He said Baseball Tonight (ESPN) visited the Twins camp today and Mike prepped the reporter before an interview with Joe. Mike informed the reporter it was OK to ask Joe about his contract status, but save it for the last question. If you ask it first, Mauer will pretty much shut you off. Joe (and everyone else) has a stand-pat answer to the question. And it is, “stay tuned, my agent and the Twins are talking and hopefully we will have an answer soon.” Or something like that.
