Joe Mauer no ordinary Joe for Twins
It took a special player to get the Minnesota Twins to spend like the Yankees and the Red Sox [team stats].
Twins catcher Joe Mauer is that player.
The reigning American League MVP, batting champion and Gold Glove backstop hit third in manager Ron Gardenhire’s lineup against the Red Sox last night. Mauer and the Twins agreed on an eight-year, $184 million contract extension on March 21 that will keep him in Minnesota through the 2018 season.
“It never weighed on my mind but it’s nice to have it done,” said Mauer, a hometown favorite who grew up in St. Paul, Minn. “It’s nice to know I’m going to stay in this uniform for a long time.”
