Justin Morneau’s Casino Night
Many ballplayers have golf tournaments as fundraisers, and they are great…they raise money for some worthy causes, and are generally a lot of fun. But a couple of years ago, when Justin and Krista Morneau decided to help raise money and awareness for children’s arthritis, they decided to do something entirely different. They decided to host an annual casino night, which took place this year on June 13 at Target Field’s Legends Club. Nearly the entire Twins team — and many of their wives — were participants in this night of fun.
When a player goes to a golf outing, he usually gets there in the morning and scarfs down a breakfast, while schmoozing, posing for photos, and signing a few autographs for auction items and the fans. Then he tees off and pretty much isn’t seen again by other participants unless they happen to cross paths on the course. By the time the players finish 18, most of a day has passed; a precious and rare day off. Instead of going to the awards dinner and auction, they usually go home to their families.
