Twins players say they’re not waiting for reinforcements, and they made a point Friday afternoon not to get excited about reports that didn’t come with official news conferences.

“Don’t believe anything you hear until it actually happens,” catcher Joe Mauer said. “I mean, there’s speculation, but I really don’t believe any of it until something actually happens.”

But Mauer acknowledged that the Twins “aren’t playing very well right now,” and center fielder Denard Span said the team was happy last season when management made minor deals to acquire Pavano, Jon Rauch and Ron Mahay in August — deals that helped them win the AL Central.
