Weary Mauer: ‘A season of tough luck’
ANAHEIM, Calif. – As he spoke of his many frustrations over the first half of the 2010 season, Twins catcher Joe Mauer on Monday admitted that he considered skipping his trip to the All-Star game because of his physical ailments.
Asked if he might have stayed home had he not been the top vote-getter among All-Stars, Mauer said, “That’s a great question. Yeah, I kind of went back and forth a little bit, but this is a great event, and it’s a great honor to be the top vote-getter and things like that.
“I keep saying that as long as they’ll have me here I’ll keep coming.”
Did he really consider not playing in the All-Star game? “A little bit,” he said. “But I’ve been playing and I feel good, and I’ll go out there and play tomorrow night.”
